Thor Halvorssen Discusses His Views On Socialism
The term socialism is one that is often misunderstood by the vast majority of people in the U.S. In a bid to explain this political ideology to their viewers the Fox Business channel turned to the human rights activist Thor Halvorssen for assistance. Halvorssen has been one of the most recognizable figures in the human rights arena for a number of years after he formed the Human Rights Foundation and the Oslo Freedom Forum, which has left him with a wealth of knowlede about the potential dangers and benefits of socialism. In the past, Thor Halvorssen has criticized socialism as the greatest threat to human rights in the world, but qualified his comments in an interview with Trish Regan that covered a range of socialism inspired areas of interest.
Thor Halvorssen has revealed he believes socialism has many benefits to offer the people of the world when policies are combined with those of a more mainstream vintage. The use of socialist principles used by left leaning governments in Scandinavian countries, such as Sweden and Denmark, has shown these ideals can be a success without sacrificing the human rights of any individuals within a nation; however, drawing on his personal experiences in his native Venezuela has left Halvorssen fearful of those who wish to use socialism as a mask for their own political ambitions.
Despite the problems Thor Halvorssen sees with the socialist ideology he was willing to reveal to Trish Regan the fact he had made the largest possible donation to the 2016 Presidential campaign of Bernie Sanders. The Independent Vermont Senator has popularized socialism by stating he would use some of the principles used to great effect in Scandinavia to assist the people of the U.S.; Halvorssen explained his principles as a human rights activist made it impossible for him to back candidates from either party who have links to dictators or authoritarian regimes.
